ID Photos

What’s so special about biometric ID photos? Can’t I just use any photo with the right sized face?
Biometric ID photos are meant to be recognized by a computer. The more standardized the photo is, the faster and easier the computer can separate the face from the background and make sure it’s really you. International and local guidelines define exactly how the photo should look, and these guidelines are more precise than the human eye can detect; it takes state-of-the-art software to verify if the photo meets the requirements.

The Pic4Pass online ID photo service guarantees your photo meets all of these requirements so your ID photo is not rejected.

Why is the Pic4Pass ID photo service better than getting my passport or visa photo from a professional passport photographer?
Pic4Pass has many advantages over a pro photographer:

  • Less expensive
  • Convenient from home (especially with babies & children)
  • Saves gas
  • Less risk of rejected photo: new requirements can’t be eyeballed, & photographer doesn’t always know requirements for other countries
  • Unlimited choice of photos (photographer’s package often gives you a limited number of photos to choose from)

So go ahead and make your photo now!

Can’t I just make a passport photo or visa photo at a photo booth?
Even "biometric-compliant" photo booths don’t always perform the necessary tests or don’t support requirements from other countries, and photo booths give very limited choice. Photo booths are impractical or nearly impossible for babies and small children, and are usually not accessible to people with limited mobility. Pic4Pass guarantees compliance, lets you do it conveniently from home, saves gas, gives you an unlimited choice of photos, and gives you an easy way to make an ID photo of a baby or small child.

What happens if an ID photo doesn’t meet the requirements?
If you submit a passport photo or visa photo that doesn’t meet the requirements, it can be rejected. That can mean, for instance, that your passport or visa application is rejected. At the very least you will need to get another photo and re-apply. If time is tight, that could spell disaster for your travel plans!

On top of this, as more and more airports and border crossings begin to use face recognition, a high-quality biometric ID photo can mean a faster trip through passport control.

Pic4Pass checks your photo and makes sure it meets all local and international requirements, guaranteed. If for some reason your photo is still rejected, you can re-take your photo at no charge.

Using Pic4Pass

How can I print my ID photo from Pic4Pass?
Pic4Pass gives you two versions of the photo: the single photo and the print version. Download the print version, then you have three ways to print (must use 4x6 in. (10x15 cm) borderless paper!)

  • Use an online photo printing service such as snapfish.com or costcophotocenter.com, which will either mail the photo to you or deliver it for pickup at a store in your area
  • Copy it to a USB stick or CD/DVD and take to a drug store or photo shop; you can have them print it for you or use a photo kiosk to print it right away yourself
  • While you can print the photo yourself at home on photo paper, we highly recommend professional printing to avoid the risk that your photo is rejected

What’s the difference between "Single Photo" and "Print Version"?
Pic4Pass gives you two versions of the photo: the single photo and the print version. The print version is a file in JPEG format with 4 copies of your photo, ready for printing. If you need to provide a hardcopy of your photo, download this file and have it printed on 4x6 in. (10x15 cm) borderless photo paper.

The single photo is a file in JPEG format, containing one copy of your photo and nothing else. Use this version if you need to submit a digital photo, such as through a website or by email. It can also make a nice, clean portrait for your social media profile, job application, etc.

Why does Pic4Pass keep rejecting my photo?
If Pic4Pass keeps saying "photo not compliant" or "warning" and you’re not sure what to do, just post your photo on our Facebook page and let our experts help you!

I got a warning when I uploaded my photo. How do I know if I can use the photo?
If Pic4Pass gives you a warning that your photo might not be acceptable, and you’re not sure if your photo is ok, just post your photo on our Facebook page and let our experts help you!

How can I get back to an ID photo I bought?
Log into Pic4Pass (click "Login" above). From your dashboard select My Order History. Find the order you need and click on Download. From here you can download the single photo and a print version with 4 photos, formatted for professional printing.

How can I get back to an ID photo I saved for later?
Log into Pic4Pass (click "Login" above). From your dashboard select My Saved Orders. Check the box by the order you need and select Add to Cart.

Can I use Pic4Pass for a passport or visa for country (X)?
To find out, go to Make a Photo, and check the Document Country drop-down list to see if the country you are looking for is there. If it is, select it and check the Document Type list for the type of document you need (passport, visa, ID card, etc.).

Don’t see what you need? Please drop us a line and let us know how soon you need it! We’ll do our best to verify the requirements for that country and document and to add it to the list in time.

How else can I use my Pic4Pass photo? Can I use it to make a photo for my (student ID, bus pass, etc.)?
In addition to photos for official documents such as a passport, visa, green card, state or national ID card and driver’s license, you can use Pic4Pass any time you need to submit a paper or digital ID photo: for your health insurance card, student ID, company ID, gym membership card, ski pass, bus pass, train pass, etc. For private and non-official uses like these the requirements are usually not very strict, and most universities and companies will accept a passport-type photo, so even if we don’t list the document you need you can probably use Pic4Pass. You can also use your Pic4Pass photo for your social media profile, resume or CV photo.

Why do I have to answer questions about my photo (Visual Quality Check)? I thought your checks are automated?
Most checks we can automate. However, there are a few things that could get your ID photo rejected that a computer can’t tell: if you’re wearing a hat, for instance, or if part of another person is behind you. So in the Visual Quality Check we show you how to check your photo for these things.

If you’re not sure if your photo passes a check, just post your photo on our Facebook page and let our experts help you!

The site isn’t working. I can select a country but then I can’t select a document type.
We’ve discovered a problem with our site with Internet Explorer 10, and are working to correct it. In the mean time there is a very simple fix.

When a site is incompatible with Internet Explorer, you’ll see the Compatibility View button in the Address bar:

  1. See if the Compatibility View button IE compatibility view button appears in the Address bar. (If you don’t see the button, please let us know because it means there is a different problem.)
  2. Tap or click the Compatibility View button IE compatibility view button to display the site in Compatibility View.

Once you turn on Compatibility View, Internet Explorer will automatically show that site in Compatibility View each time you visit.

You can turn it off by tapping or clicking the button IE compatibility view button again. Or, you can clear the entire list of sites using Compatibility View by deleting your browsing history.

Compliance Guarantee

What does the Pic4Pass compliance guarantee cover?

However, the guarantee is void in the following cases:

  • You clearly ignored a warning from our automated checks
  • Your photo clearly does not pass one of the Visual Quality Checks (e.g. patterned background, wearing hat)
  • You did not print the photo on the correct size or type of paper as instructed

What can I do if my Pic4Pass photo was rejected by authorities?
If your photo was rejected by authorities such as a passport office, you can file a warranty claim as follows:

Log into Pic4Pass (click "Login" above). From your dashboard select My Order History. Find the order that was rejected and click on "File claim". Answer the few simple questions. Please scan and attach any supporting document, such as a rejection letter that explains the reason. We will review your claim and get back with you shortly.

If your claim is accepted we will send you a link you can use to make a new picture for free, along with suggestions to help you make an acceptable photo the next time.
